Lead chips are harmful and should never be ingested, but they aren't the serious threat like most people think. Lead dust is the real deal! In many cases, homeowners are concerned about whether or not they will have to move out while their house is being painted. Typically, the answer is no.

While there will likely be some moving around of furniture, closets will have to be cleaned out, and things will have to be taken down off the walls, for example, the residents of the home can often remain in the home during the project.
