Project: Honda Aircraft Research & Development 

Location: Greensboro, NC

Client Type: Aerospace Manufacturing Facility


Project Summary: Custom Coatings installed a solid-color epoxy flooring system in the 950-square-foot Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) room at Honda Aircraft's Research & Development facility. The project included removing the existing VCT flooring, mechanically grinding and profiling the concrete, filling joints, and applying a moisture-mitigating primer followed by a thick, 100% solids self-leveling epoxy coating. The finished system provides a seamless, durable surface designed to withstand daily use while remaining easy to clean and maintain.

FAQ's

  • Can you install a floor coating without prepping the floor first?

    No. Coatings bond to a properly prepared surface, which usually means mechanical profiling, repairs, and cleaning before anything is applied. A system installed over an unprepared floor can look fine for a while, then fail all at once. Prep is definitely non-negotiable.

  • What floor system is best for my space?

    It depends on what the floor takes. Traffic type, chemical exposure, moisture, how much downtime you can afford, and the condition of the slab all drive the spec. 

  • Is there a coating that protects concrete from chemical and acid damage?

    Yes. Certain urethane and specialty systems are built specifically to resist aggressive chemicals and acids that would degrade a standard epoxy. The right one depends on which chemicals, how often, and at what concentration, so the spec follows the actual exposure.
