Check The Paint Type First!

Well, before we get into the steps, you’ll want to know the type of paint on your walls first.

Flat/matte paints need more careful cleaning. If you scrub too hard or too much the paint can start coming off of the walls.

Eggshell sheens are barely better for cleaning than flat/matte. Satin and glossy sheens are much easier to wash but you still don’t want to scrub too hard.

9 Steps To Cleaning Painted Walls

1. Clear the walls and the space in front of it
2. Lightly dust or vacuum
3. Use towels to line the base of the wall
4. Fill a small pail with warm water
5. Fill another pail with water and ¼ cup of dish soap
6. Dampen a sponge with the warm water
7. Clean your painted walls from the bottom up
8. Repeat steps 6-7 using the soapy water if needed
9. Use a non-ammoniated cleaner like Simple Green if steps 1-8 don’t work

You won’t want to use ammonia or products with ammonia. They can soften the latex paint and damage it.
