1. Check your kitchen cabinets for damages and fix them
2. Take off the doors and drawer faces and mark them*
3. Take off the door and drawer handles and mark them*
4. Cover all surfaces you don’t want the paint to get on
5. Clean the kitchen cabinets with denatured alcohol and Crud Kutter
6. Lightly sand them
7. Clean the dust off
8. Prime the cabinets with a bonding primer
9. Lightly sand and clean them again
10. Paint 2 coats onto the kitchen cabinets
11. Let everything dry and put them back together

*It’s best to mark cabinets and their location with similar marks, such as “A”. This makes putting them back together easier.

Cleaning the cabinets and sanding them helps the paint to stick better. Dirt and dust separate the paint from the cabinet, leading to cracking and peeling.

The Priming And Painting Process

You’ll want to grab your mini roller and brush. Priming and painting have the same technique and steps.

Use a brush to paint a border around the edges of the door or drawer face. Then use the mini roller to paint in long, even strokes. If you catch any marks while the primer or paint is still wet, you can lightly go over it with the brush or roller to even it out. Then paint the edges.
